WOW...long time, no post!

I can't believe so much time has went by since I last posted to our blog. Funny how life can get so busy and so much time can go by without even realizing it. I have simply skipped an entire racing season and we are underway on yet another. I suppose it is best to just jump in and try not to "blog" down :-D

I have managed to keep the photo albums on facebook somewhat updated, so feel free to check them out http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Deer-Creek-Sleddogs/183371828905

This past year has brought many changes around here and it seems the 2011-12 season is moving at turtle speeds. I suppose the biggest change that has somewhat of an overall affect on the kennel and our lives is Allan's new job he took in March 2011. He is now a safety representative for Chesapeake Energy which requires much more attention than the job with the State of Wyoming. In terms of racing, we knew this new job would put a squash to Allan's dreams of successful distance racing, so with that in mind, Allan sold the better part of his Alaskan team to Jerry Scdoris. By Jerry's accounts, he seems quite happy with them as he should be. There were some phenomenal dogs in that group that we still dearly miss.

Training run
Now the goal is to hit as many weekend races as possible between Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana. Unfortunately, several have been cancelled already this year including our own Green River Classic in Pinedale, WY. It looks like we'll be getting to Dubois in a couple weeks and the Casper Charity race will be the following week after that. Hopefully, it will work out to also make the Ashton race to wrap up the season that feels like its barely started.

In other news, we've now successfully seen a number of Deer Creek dogs into Europe the past couple years -- 5 now live in Sweden (2 went in whelp and produced successful litters), 1 in Germany, 2 in Scotland,  3 in Canada, 1 in Switzerland, 5 in England. We are very happy to see the progress and success of these dogs in the racing homes. Our burning desire to see the Seppala lines continue around world seems to be steadily happening. It has also been somewhat nostalgic to see a number of Seppalas make their way back into Alaska. We wish our friends and the Seppala great success and happiness in the vast sleddog world of Alaska!

Snowbound Planet Litter

Inside the kennel, we recently brought in 4 new pups from a breeding done by Snowbound Sleddogs (Danny Corcoran). They are now 5 months old and really thriving. We have very hi hopes for these pups, they have super bodies, lovely temperaments, and great eating habits. As soon as the 60 mph wind dies down, hopefully this weekend, we will get them in harness to see what they are really made of

Male and Female
And lastly, the mongrel litter. We have a gorgeous set of puppies that were suppose to be Seppalta's MyOreo x Starfire's Jinx (aka Pepper). Shamefully, Pepper was determined to "get around" and managed to sneak into the male yard (2 6ft fences and an alley-way between) where she was caught in her shameful acts. Recent DNA tests have proved that Oreo is "excluded from parentage"... *sigh*. The lucky stud, Rex(Rocket -Santos x Reggie - Barron). So if you are looking for a gorgeous healthy Alaskan Husky with strong husky/Seppala lines, just give us a call! The litter was born November 27.
